Week 23 - Short week!!

Dearest Family and Friends,

This has been a short week and we will be soooooo glad to get back to the temple. Not much has happened. Wednesday we were at the Temple cleaning and it was so good to be with 5 other couples of our sweet missionary friends. We got a lot accomplished, more than we were scheduled for, and it felt really good to serve. I LOVE our little temple!!! It is such a sweet experience to clean a temple because it fills you with so much love for Heavenly Father and gratitude for the great blessing of having a temple to go to. Thursday, we went took a big shopping trip to Costco….last one before we go home!!

Friday I got an email from the volunteer at the Museum in Stonington. When we talked in the Museum, she had said that she was trying to find a connection to the Mayflower. She also mentioned that she had Cobbs in her ancestry. I remembered that it was through my Cobb line that I connected to the Mayflower so when I got home, I checked all of the relationships. I had emailed those to her and when she checked it out she found that she descended through a brother to my ever-so-many-greats grandmother. She did indeed tie in to the same Cobb line. She was so excited that she emailed me. She also sent me a bunch of other information so I need to go in and see where else we connect. So many of the lines, in the areas where our families were, intermarried. I just know that the Lord brought us together for a wise purpose. It was just too “coincidental” that we met. Family history is indeed all about bringing families together on both sides of the veil. I feel a great love for this 9th or 10th cousin…probably through several lines.

Saturday brought the Women’s Session of Conference and it was soooooo good. I went over to the Palmyra Stake Center with a bunch of the Temple missionaries and it was great to be together. I was so touched by so many of the talks. Afterwards, we sat there talking for almost an hour. Sisterhood is the best!! Today we were challenged to have a specific question or questions in mind for Conference next weekend and to pray to find out what we need to ask for. That really touched my heart and as I prayed, two very specific things came to mind.  I will prayerfully ask this week that those things will be addressed in Conference. I challenge all of you to do the same thing. I know from experience that the Lord WILL give us answer to our prayers.

Today was a sweet day. We had the Primary Program and they did a wonderful job. Our SS lesson went well. I really felt the Spirit and we had a great discussion about Commandments and the blessings that come from obedience. Next time we have church we will have Kalista’s sister in class. That will be wonderful….for everyone. After church we went down to Brookfield where Roxie Frink, my great, great, great grandmother was born and lived until she met and married her 3rd cousin, once removed, Gilbert Frink. Their first son, Edwin Gilbert Frink, was also born there. It is beautiful farmland and there is very little of the town except a sign and a couple of houses. Gilbert Frink was born in Pharsalia, NY, about 10 miles over the hill but we didn’t go there because we had to go around the hill by the bigger roads and then go on little teeny roads to get there. The area will look much like the area around Brookfield. They lived in Otselic, NY just north of Pharsalia, which is where I found them on the 1880 census yesterday.  So fun!!!  Then, we went to Cazenovia where Nancy Catherine Lake, my great, great grandmother was born and raised and where her family had lived for at least 3 generations. She married Edwin Gilbert Frink. It is quite a big town now but the surrounding area looks like…wait for it…New York!!!.....beautiful, rolling, tree-covered hills interspersed with little farms. It is beautiful country here in upstate New York!! I’m not sure why my family left….maybe the itch to find new places!?!

Across the road from Brookfield.  This is truly what upstate New York looks like.....all of it!!!

Well, dear ones, another week has come and gone. Next week, we work at the temple on Wednesday and Friday and are sooooo excited!!! Until then….

Love you and miss you!!!
Mom/Grandma/Sandy
