Week 21 - Blessings!!
Dearest Family and Friends,
This has been an interesting week!
Monday, I was able to serve a sister missionary who was sick...so grateful!! Several of our group have been sick, or had family issues, or gotten hurt and we have all rallied around them. I was reminded of a scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:25,26. The part before this talks about all the members of the body being important and I really like that part too but these two verses really describe our little group of 6-month missionaries. "...but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it."
Monday night we had a terrible storm and this is what happened to a tree at the Visitor's Center

In the afternoon we walked on our Hill and fall is definitely upon us!!!

It was really interesting...we looked at one another about 4:30 and said that we needed to go take our walk....so we did. We came upon a sister from Orem, who was originally from South Africa, and her disabled daughter in a wheel chair. They were looking for a way up to the top of the Hill to see the monument. No one at the Visitor's Center had told them that they could drive up there. She had been praying that they could find a way....and there we were!! We told them how to get there on the road and they were so excited. The Lord sure loves His children!! We were also able to help them at the Temple the next day....so sweet!!
Wednesday was a day of service at the temple....I just went from one little unexpected task to another just filling in where I was needed. Any resemblance between my original assignment and what I did was purely coincidental!!! I LOVED it....I really felt needed and loved being able to be of service to the shift coordinators.
On Thursday, I LOVED going to the Priesthood Restoration Site and the Knight and Stowell homes. It was a day of testimony building. As we began the tour at the Restoration Site, 6 young sister missionaries sang to us and the Spirit was so strong. That really set the tone for our tour.
Our Senior Missionary guide asked us a question that really filled my heart with gratitude. He asked, "What would your lives have been like if the events of this place had not taken place...no priesthood, no Book of Mormon, no baptism. A bit later in the tour, he quoted parts of D&C 4, emphasizing, "...and if ye have desires to serve, ye are called to the work." That was about the third time this week that I have thought about that phrase!! Then he talked about "thrusting in your sickles". He told us that those are not the huge scythes that they used to cut grain in huge swathes but the small, hand-held, curved knives that even children could wield. He told us that ANYONE can serve as long as they have a desire. My heart was so full of the Holy Ghost!! I WANT to serve for the rest of my days. I don't know what my service will look like but I pray that I will be in tune enough with the Spirit to know what my Father wants me to do. As we finished the tour, I stood looking out over the trees and the beauty and remarked to one of the other missionaries what an amazing job the Church had done in restoring these sites but that I didn't think it was for investigators as much as it was for the members, to strengthen our testimonies. She agreed and said that we needed to bring our families there. The phrase, "stand ye in holy places" popped into my mind. It is imperative that we and our children and grandchildren find those holy places so that we can be safe from the world.
Friday and Saturday were quiet, peaceful and satisfying days at the Temple. I am VERY tired tonight after an inadequate night sleep and getting up at 5:30 to go to the early session this morning but I feel a deep satisfaction. I am actually glad, though, that we had a bit of time off to recoop our strength and energy. We work HARD!!! Stay tuned for our adventures during the shut-down break!! Till next week....
Love you and miss you!!!
