Week 20 - This is still summer???

Family and friends

Sometimes service doesn't have splashy results or gee whiz experiences. Monday we were witness couple and we took our mission pictures at the Temple that night.

Tuesday was SUPPOSED to be quiet until our friends grabbed us and dragged us out to Stoney Brook State Park. Very beautiful and words are not necessary.
Here are our friends

Stoney Brook has a swimming hole, that they had drained.

The water falls were amazing.
Even shale, which is made up many thin slices, can make a very hard rock

As was the rest of the scenery.

We are reminded in the scriptures to lichen the scriptures unto ourselves.
So, like these roots trying to hang in there, so should we no matter how difficult life may seem.

Wednesday we were in the baptistry for three sessions and two in sealings. The Lord knows our individual needs and one young sister I was impressed to challenge to do family history. the Spirit was sweet.

Thursday we visited Genesee Country Village, a collection of eighteenth and nineteenth century homes and buildings as well as characters sharing  information about the craft or location. Especially interesting was 1800's hygiene (or lack there of). Perhaps we'll talk about it when we get back, but suffice it to say that bathing was optional and people went to great lengths to hide the stench.
The homes were varied and interesting
 The gunshop was neat.

Grammy would have loved the pottery shop and kiln that fires 300 pieces at a time.
Grandma was ready to start teaching as soon as she saw this classroom. ("Or not," said Grandma.)
 the parlor was restful.
And even as we come and go, there are unexpected blessings around every corner.

Friday I witnessed a sealing of a living child (in her 80's) to her dead parents. the Spirit was sweet.
Saturday we left early so Grandma could get to the office by 8. We left early because of a prompting she had. She wasn't really needed - but I was. My schedule was not filled in completely, but the Lord took care of that. I wasn't supposed to start until 9, but by then I had already baptized the father of the girl who came for 8 am baptisms. They brought their own family and she is only 12. And an assistant history consultant in her New Jersey ward. how amazing. The family members they were baptizing lived in the temple district, so they wanted to do the work here.

Sunday we drove through torrential rain to get to teach and listen to crickets (real ones) in the chapel. Here you can see the rain trying to go back up to the clouds so it can fall again.
This is picture of one of Grandma's flowers that we almost threw out last week. a\A little TLC and it has perked right up. I hope this is a little TLC for all of you, too.

Love you all

Grandad
