Our Call - December 2016

We were finally able to complete or mission papers and had our final interview with our Stake President in October. ...And the waiting began!!! We thought they had forgotten us....or changed their minds....or were considering a mission change....or...and the list went on. It was a great lesson in patience!! Finally, on December 8th, we received our mission call...to the 6-month, Palmyra Temple Mission. We were sooooo excited.

One-third of the way

Dear family and friends Sad and happy to say that one-third of the mission is complete and we have two-thirds to go. As in all things, marking time wastes the opportunities while seeing what has been accomplished gives satisfaction and joy and spurs you forward to greater efforts for the time remaining. We'll be home in twenty weeks, and in the meantime we are reveling in the Spirit. Monday we were treated at FHE to Bob Parrot, the Church's forester. He has responsibility for maintaining the Sacred Grove and other forests around Church history sites including Kirtland and Harmony Priesthood Restoration. He does not have a degree, just a love for the woods and a lifetime of experience. The Sacred Grove was in a dying condition because the Facilities Maintenance people were keeping it park-like, removing all leaves and dead branches. Many members preferred it that way, but it was killing the grove. Brother Parrot became involved through a series of "coincidences"....

Week 21 means what?

Dear family and friends We, the Church, are moving quickly to do the Lord's work before the second coming. We are the sons of Moses (Melchizedek Priesthood) and Aaron (Aaronic Priesthood). Thursday we were at the Priesthood Restoration site (actually Aaronic Priesthood restoration site, more on that later).  John the Baptist stated that he was restoring the Aaronic Priesthood  until the sons of Levi (Moses and Aaron) do offer up a sacrifice in righteousness. Elder Atherton proposes that Section 128 says it is the book of remembrance of our dead. I agree, and we are doing that, but not done. Bringing our ancestors to the temple purifies both us and them. Grandma and I will continue doing this work regardless of whether we are wearing a missionary tag on our clothes because we wear the "calling of God in Christ Jesus" Phil. 3:14) inside. Mother's Day

Another wonderful week. We had the Spirit in the Temple as we served. Thursday we invited as many of the other 6 month missionaries as wanted to join us to come with with us to Ganondaga, a Seneca village of historical significance in Victor. There is a visitor's center with many artifacts and a movie about their creation story. The fact that these were once cherished and blessed members of Israel who have lost the full truth easily came through. They still had glimpses of the truth, but it was lost and buried. One of the key customs of the Iroquois Confederacy was that when a peace conference was called, they buried their weapons of war just as the Anti-Nefi-Lehis. The Seneca and others created a political structure in some respects like the US Constitution that came later.
