Week 1 from Dad
We have felt this entire week that we have been protected by angels and guided by the Lord to arrive safely.
Monday we had a series of events that slowed us down. For thirty five minutes we listened to a young man Mom had taught who needed to share with us. This was only one of the things that ate up the time we had set aside to pack. Altogether it was about two hours. We do not begrudge the time we spent, it was all worthwhile, but it had the effect of putting us out of the house three hours late the next day, and that was with dropping items from the schedule.
Tuesday, as I said, we were out over two hours late. The impact was to keep us from going much farther than Cheyenne that night, it was already after eight. The next place was an hour away and so we stopped. What we noticed, though, were two semis flipped on their sides near Rawlins due to weather. This happened sometime before we arrived, but we are certain we were delayed in order to avoid that mess.
Weather was worse in Nebraska Tuesday before we arrived. Even so, the side winds made it quite difficult to drive and maintain more than 50 to 55 mph. Also, we needed to stop for BYU by 5:30 for Mom to teach. Another three hours and we would have been through most of Iowa. We were very grateful for the safety because we were just behind the nasty winds which could have been a tragedy.
Thursday we arrived in Indianapolis after 10. Friday got up and moved very slowly getting started. It was a beautiful day for driving and missed the worst of the rain in Pennsylvania and New York. Got in at 9 and set up. Went to bed and one of the brethren came knocking to make sure we were supposed to be here. I assured him we were temple missionaries.
Saturday finished getting organized and putting things away after the jouncing on bad roads. Also answered an email from a brother who is creating a list of all the 1935 to 1985 Brasil missionaries. I responded and got a call from a man Elder Beckstead and I baptized in Sao Vicente. He is now a great grandfather and he and his wife are on their second mission. What a blessing to know I was involved in that.
Today we went to the Sacred Grove in the afternoon. A special experience.
