Week 23 - End of break

(I was going to say 'Kermit the Frog, here', but I didn't think the kids would get the reference.)

We posted last week's blog this Tuesday, so we are getting back on track with a short post today.

Wednesday we cleaned the Temple, at least our portion and a bit more. I was up in the attic where I could do the least harm vacuuming the duct work, piping, water lines and electrical runs as well as the floors. It brought back memories of our first year of marriage when I worked in the AC/Heating plant at BYU. Also my nicknames of Crash and Splash. Fortunately, I did not live up to either one.

I did not take pictures in the Temple, as per procedure so you cannot see where I was. However, I stepped out on the roof and got some great shots. First, here is the Sacred Grove from the Temple above the window that looks out on it. One sacred place from another.

 September 21st, Thursday, was foggy for our walk. Didn't get the full monument, but I wanted the fog in the trees, too.
I did catch sight of a wood nymph as she disappeared in to the trees on her way home as I climbed the Hill, however.


Most of Thursday, Friday and Saturday I wrote and took care of chores like shopping. Saturday I also parked cars for The Purple Painted Lady flea market to help the Palmyra Rotary for three hours. Didn't think any of those things would make interesting pictures, however.

Today we taught and Grandma played for the Primary program. The Sunday School lesson was very good on how the commandments bless us and protect us. We felt the Spirit as we discussed these things. Grandma will tell you about our adventures in the wilds of upstate New York after Church.

    I expect you to make Rarebit on Sunday. We will be. If you would like to call in, we will be together in the morning, before the session.

Bumps in the Road - March/April 2017

Toward the end of March, Great Grandma had her first stroke. She ended up in the hospital in Grand Junction and I went over there to be with her the Monday after General Conference. It was so very hard to see her in that state. She could not talk very well, nor walk easily. She was also very sick due to being given a drug that she shouldn't have been given. We were so worried about her. The next day, she was improved and could talk to us a bit better and feed herself. On Wednesday, she went to a rehab center so that she could get ready to move into a new assisted living center the she was going to before she had her stroke. But that night she another stroke. She was unable to talk more than one or two words at a time or walk. She was very weak and could not feed herself. It about broke my heart to say goodbye to her, not knowing if she would still be with us when we returned from our mission. She has since continued to improve a bit each day. Week 26 - an unexpectedly busy week

Dear family and friends Time is flying, we just a saw a third of our mission in Palmyra disappear; if you start counting from last week. We learned an interesting lesson by forgetting our umbrellas at the Temple last Saturday; we were facing a potential drenching Monday morning without them. You can put your own tagline on that, just remember the Gospel is designed to protect you from the downpours of Lucifer. Never leave home without it. Now, as I was praying to know what to do about the rain, the Lord reminded me we have ponchos in the trunk. I got a little wet getting them into the RV, but it protected Grandma. FHE on the Pearl of Great Price papyri was interesting although we had heard 99% before. It never hurts to learn more or be reminded of eternal truths. Tuesday we went for a walk in the Sacred Grove and enjoyed the Spirit. I walk on the Hill most every weekday. One-third of the way

Dear family and friends Sad and happy to say that one-third of the mission is complete and we have two-thirds to go. As in all things, marking time wastes the opportunities while seeing what has been accomplished gives satisfaction and joy and spurs you forward to greater efforts for the time remaining. We'll be home in twenty weeks, and in the meantime we are reveling in the Spirit. Monday we were treated at FHE to Bob Parrot, the Church's forester. He has responsibility for maintaining the Sacred Grove and other forests around Church history sites including Kirtland and Harmony Priesthood Restoration. He does not have a degree, just a love for the woods and a lifetime of experience. The Sacred Grove was in a dying condition because the Facilities Maintenance people were keeping it park-like, removing all leaves and dead branches. Many members preferred it that way, but it was killing the grove. Brother Parrot became involved through a series of "coincidences"....
